Fashion week in Africa is an important event held at various locations around the world celebrating African Fashion. There is so much anticipation for various fashion weeks in Africa from October to December 2023. Here’s a list of some for you to save the dates.
SOUTH AFRICAN FASHION WEEK
OCTOBER 19-21, 2023
South African Fashion Week which holds yearly in Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa was established in1996 by Lucilla Booyzen. SA Fashion Week is the only business-to-business fashion platform in the country. It is seen as a major player in the growth and development of the fashion industry in South Africa. This year’s event will be held from the 19th to the 29th of October 2023.
LAGOS FASHION WEEK (LFW)
OCTOBER 25-29, 2023
Lagos Fashion Week was established in 2011 by Omoyemi Akerele and produced by Style House Files. LFW hosts one of the leading fashion events on the African continent. It is an annual event that is always held in Lagos the commercial capital of Nigeria. LFW drives the Nigerian and African fashion industry by bringing together all stakeholders involved in the fashion scene from designers, buyers, consumers, and media houses to a four-day event where they all interact. LFW has various programs that provide support to the fashion industry and its mission is based on five pillars of support. They are; Creativity, Entrepreneurship, Retail, Connecting the dots, and craftsmanship. This year’s event is scheduled for the 25th-29th of October.
AFRICA FASHION WEEK LONDON (AFWL)
October 27-29, 2023
Africa Fashion Week was founded by Ronke Ademiluyi in 2011 and it is the biggest fashion week aiding the growth of African fashion in London. AFWL aims to feature emerging African designers and the apparel industry, putting a spotlight on the rapidly increasing African fashion industry. This year’s event will be held from the 27th to 29th of October, 2023.
SOWETO FASHION WEEK
November 1-4, 2023
Soweto Fashion Week is a We Commerce platform founded in 2011. It is for high fashion brands in South Africa and upcoming designers in South Africa. The Soweto Fashion Week brand is a Marketing and Advertising platform that has a global footprint and is one of the biggest fashion shows in South Africa.
Guaranty Trust Fashion Weekend
November 11-12, 2023
The Guaranty Trust Fashion Weekend was created in 2016 and has become one of the leading platforms for promoting real commerce for small businesses in the Fashion Industry. Guaranty Trust Fashion Weekend was designed as a free business platform to showcase to a global audience the best of Africa’s Fashion while promoting the lively and creative enterprise of the African Fashion Industry. This year’s event is scheduled for the 11th-12th November 2023.
SWAHILI FASHION WEEK
DECEMBER 1-3, 2023
Swahili Fashion week was created by Mustafa Hassanali a Pan African Couturier from Tanzania. It provides an avenue for Swahili-speaking countries and the rest of Africa to present their talents, sell their creativity, and network with others in the industry. Swahili Fashion Week aims to promote the African concept while showcasing fashion and creativity as a high-income industry. This year’s event is scheduled for the 1st-3rd December 2023.
