LAGOS FASHION WEEK 2023 DAY 1- OSHOBOR

Date:

OSHOBOR SPRING SUMMER 2024

While I was backstage, I was drawn to two models wearing beautiful pieces that looked like Oshobor’s designs. His pieces were recognizable from his show last year being a Green Access Finalist last year at the Lagos Fashion Week. What particularly drew me to his designs were the hats the models had on. The outfits made the models look like they were having fun with a joyous aura surrounding them. I proceeded to look for the Masquerade Designer- Oshobor to explain his collection. He said the collection will show a pop of color, masculine pieces, defined silhouettes, and a story that touches the heart.

The title of this year’s collection is called A Graduation of Love. Love that graduates in its various forms which inspired the colors. The technique used is called ‘’hand installation’’ because yarns are installed one after the other on the fabrics. In designing this collection, he had himself in mind together with everyone around him because he is filled with so much love from his family, friends, and everyone around him. It’s his way of giving out all the love he has received and he finally got to explain the hat which is necessary for every graduation with a tassel included to show that we are graduating in the love. The graduation had to be in colors from black through different gradients to white because for every love to graduate, starts from a place of ignorance and grows with time to a place of acceptance. For instance, when a baby is born he doesn’t know what love is but grows to love his parents. Also, the love between couples grows with time and graduates. The graduation of love is depicted through colors from black through colors of the rainbow. The colors of the rainbow signify every phase you go through in the process and ends with white which is a place of acceptance, peace, and a happy place.

On the runway, the outfits looked amazing, mostly structured and form-fitting while others were free flowy. The choice of music he used for the show was a classical piece that helped translate the story.  This drew the audience into every piece in the collection with a closing rendition by an artist to close the perfect graduation of love.
